Learning the truth and the Day of Unity
Its the Lumity stans who are attacking innocent people over a couple THAT DOESN’T EVEN EXIST IRL. The amount of biphobia I’ve seen in some lumity stans bashing people for this ship is just fucking insane. Before I start I do not ship Hunter X Luz, but the reasons people attacking the people who do ship them are fucking so insane I literally couldn’t beileve what I was witnessing when I first saw it. As of February 19, 2022, Hunter & Luz is the character's most popular platonic relationship on AO3 and Edric/Hunter is the romantic one despite two of them not having directly interacted in the series yet.
Palismen
In "Hunting Palismen", she sabotages Hunter's mission and attempts to kill him. She thinks she succeeded, and is surprised to bump into him still alive later. The two appear to be at odds with each other, both trying to prove that they're useful for Emperor Belos. Later, in "Eclipse Lake", Kikimora tries to find Titan's Blood as fast as possible, constantly paranoid about Hunter ruining her plans and stealing her work in the mine tunnels. When Belos is defeated, Hunter and his companions thank the Collector for helping and they work with him to revert the citizens of the Boiling Isles back to normal.

In "Hunting Palismen", the duo are forced to work together to regain the stolen palismen. After realizing that Kikimora wants to kill Hunter, she saves his life, even though she makes it clear that she doesn't like him. They are shown to tease one another, with Luz purposefully annoying and egging on Hunter throughout the episode. The two eventually have a heart-to-heart chat about each other's magical capabilities, and Hunter reveals his backstory to the girl. Luz eventually trusts Hunter enough to hand back his staff, but is later betrayed when Hunter turns it against her.
Luz is emotionally hurt, telling Hunter that he is not her friend as he is just "The Golden Guard". Hunter then reveals his name to her, and defends her from Kikimora when she starts attacking them, allowing Luz to get away safely with the palismen. They are shown to have a complicated and abusive relationship, as Emperor Belos aggressively clutches the boy's shoulder in "Hunting Palismen", and later misses hitting Hunter's cheek by a tendril, after Hunter fails his mission to capture palismen and speaks of healing Emperor Belos' curse with wild magic. It appears as though the Emperor set a fear of wild magic into Hunter, as he is wary of Flapjack when the cardinal palisman touches him. In "Eclipse Lake", Emperor Belos implies that Hunter's failure from the events of "Hunting Palismen" is the reason he switched Hunter with Kikimora to gather Titan's Blood.
Golden Guard
Eventually, Luz tells Hunter that she thinks of him as family, which makes him break down in tears, meaning that he feels the same way about her. When the two first met, he displayed a playful, but antagonist attitude toward her, and made it clear that they were enemies, but insisted that she obey him for her and Eda’s sake. When Luz told him that Kikimora was after him and that she wanted to help, he refused to believe her until he saw for himself, and even so refused her help, until he was left without options. After finding they had similar interests in magic, Hunter opens up to Luz about his life and how Belos took him in, he then gains Luz’s trust only to attempt to betray her afterward, but when Luz tells him that she thought of him as a friend, he relents and tells her his name then allows her to leave while covering her escape. Hunter doesn’t interact much with the students and feels embarrassed being introduced to everyone by Gus, instead he bides his time waiting for Luz to find the memory of her witnessing the teleportation glyph being used by Belos to enter the Titan’s skull.
After managing to reach Gus, Hunter says he understands what it's like getting tricked and that he can't trust himself, he says he spent his entire life believing what he's been doing was something good or someone good, but it was a lie, and that there was a part of him that wanted to believe it, but promises that he is Gus' friend. Hunter tries to do the breathing technique for Gus, but Hunter does it wrong and makes whistling sounds. At the end of the episode, he tells everyone at Hexside that Belos has been lying to everyone about wild magic and the Day of Unity, and then tells them the whole story. Back in the Demon Realm, Hunter reverts back to his Golden Guard persona; he treats his friends coldly and avoids them, and focuses solely on the mission to defeat Belos and the Collector, while pushing all distractions aside.

When Hunter believed Belos was back, the first person he goes to is Luz seeing as how the trusts her the most. The two then bond over their desire to protect the group, with Luz admitting that she will protect him too because they're family now. Hunter begins to cry in tears of joy upon hearing this and Luz wraps her arm around him. Later in the Haunted Hayride, Hunter once again suspects Belos and he goes to Luz.
Four years later, Hunter has become an accomplished palisman carver and bonded to a new palisman, a blue jay named Waffle. He remains close to his friends and commemorates Flapjack, whom he builds a memorial for. In "Hollow Mind" however, after finding out about his true nature during his and Luz's time in Belos' mind, Hunter gradually began learning about Caleb's existence, but was initially unaware of his name or true character, knowing only by the Day of Unity that he was a witch hunter with Belos before being killed by him. Because of this, Hunter initially held a fearful opinion of Caleb, assuming him to have shared Belos' hatred of witch and demonkind. This heavily contributed to the insecurities Hunter possessed over his artificial origins, as he felt ashamed and fearful that his friends would reject him for being the clone of a witch hunter. During his time in the emperor's court, Hunter wore an ivory-colored hooded cloak with a golden triangle clasp, like other members of the Emperor's Coven. Under the cloak was a dark yellow long-sleeved tunic with a golden-yellow short-sleeved shirt over it and a dark brown belt, black leggings, dark brown gloves, and boots.

In “For the Future”, Hunter begins to act like he did as the Golden Guard, becoming no nonsense and cold as he was before and solely focused on his mission to stop Belos and the Collector. While traveling to Bonesborough, Hunter notices Willow and Gus enjoying being back in the Demon Realm and while he briefly takes joy in seeing them happy, begins to hallucinate hearing Flapjack and immediately reverts back and insists that they keep going. At the Owl House, Hunter chooses to stand guard outside and lookout for anyone approaching, while being followed around by Clover and Emmiline, which annoys him as he would rather be looking for Belos than sitting around doing nothing. Hunter sees what he thinks are Eda and King flying on a shooting star and everyone flies after them into Bonesborough, Hunter scouts ahead a finds that a wave of sparkles is headed for them as they hide.
